1987 Austin Mini
Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this sharp looking classic Austin Mini. This Mini is titled as a 1987 and was recently imported; it's showing a tick under 82,000 miles on the odometer. It has benefited from a recent refresh which included a repaint in attractive pewter with black accents, upholstery and new wheels.
The previous owner reportedly had the engine professionally overhauled with a 40 degree cam, polished head, carburetor rebuild and modified exhaust -- we do have some photos of the work. We believe the engine to be a 998 unit with a 1275 head -- it pulls strong and sounds good (see video). The suspension is stiffer than stock, and when coupled with the 12-inch Minilite-style wheels wearing sticky Yokohama rubber, this package makes for an exciting driving experience.
The body is straight and the paint quality is good -- there are a few bubbles on the roof around the gutters and one by the windshield seal. The underside is tidy with no obvious rust; we have noted some previous work in the front floor pans. This Mini is a well-sorted example that looks good and is a blast to drive -- it would be equally at home at cars and coffee, on a spirited mountain run or on a morning commute.
The number plates are original to the car (the same number is etched into the rear glass) and some additional sleuthing confirms this to be a genuine 1987 (first registered in 12/87) with MOT valid through 12/07 (so it was likely imported in 2017).
